Good nutrition and regular physical activity reduce the risk of many serious health conditions including obesity, heart disease, diabetes, stroke, colon cancer, and high blood pressure. Physical activity also helps maintain healthy bones, muscles, joints, and weight control.
Decrease the percentage of adults in Salt Lake County who are overweight or obese.
- Increase availability to healthy food for all populations
- Increase access to community gardens & Farmers Markets
- Assure adoption of meal planning guides for Food Pantries
- Implement tax disincentive policies for sugar beverages
- Increase regular physical activity
- Conduct walkability assessments of neighborhoods
- Assure connected hiking and biking trails; promote mapping of these trails
- Increase joint use agreements for recreation at schools and churches
- Increase Healthy Communities walking and incentives programs
- Increase availability of evidence based Lifestyle Change Program such as: Diabetes Prevention program, Living Well self-management program, weight management programs, and social dance/recreation programs
